A double negative is the use of two negatives in a single clause. Double negative can get very confusing. It cancels out what I really want to say, which is not the way I want the sentence to turn out. So I try to avoid using double negatives. This a good rule to follow: The best approach to the double negative construction, as with other language issues, is to consider the context as you decide how you can most effectively communicate what you wish to say.
